No Parkin On The Dance Floor

RACE DAY APRIL 7th, 2018
9:00 AM Innsbrook Pavillon

I was diagnosed in 2008 with Parkinson's disease and on December 03, 2014, I underwent my first Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery (DBS) and on February 21, 2018, I underwent my second DBS surgery at VCU/ MCV, which was a huge success. This operation was very successful in alleviating a number of the physical side effects of Parkinson's and has allowed for a substantial reduction in amount of medication. The success of the operation has allowed me to experience fewer physical distractions so that I may focus on fighting the cognitive issues of this disease. Exercise such as spinning, walking, running, dancing, etc. are a big part of my life, as it is his belief that these stave off the effects of Parkinson's.

I belong to a Parkinson's support group called the Movers and Shakers; this will be the fifth year that Movers and Shakers, alongside with the VCU Parkinson’s and Movement Disorder Center have sponsored a 5K race to benefit the center. I appreciate that many of you participated in and/or contributed on my behalf prior years. I’m writing in hopes that your participation will be there again this year. All donations will go directly to the VCU Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center, a premier model for improving the lives of individuals with movement disorders, their families and the community by commitment to excellence in comprehensive interdisciplinary clinical care, transitional research, education and outreach. It is research like this that developed the DBS surgery, which has changed my life in many ways. The research has benefited me in my lifetime and will continue for the next generation and their children.

Thank you for your support,

Paul Jalbert
